I am no newbie to DCPS.
I do think I have a valid point... and its not ment to please, but raise wonder...

I am a 31 year old mother of 3 in DCPS and I am an ECE teacher in a NW school.

I have a mother who was a teacher for 35 + years in DCPS and she was at more than 10 schools - all elelmentary. 5 of her DCPS years were served as a Content Specialist. She wrote the first set of standards MANDATORILY USED in schools for the Music departments ALL GRADES!

My father was a DCPD Officer Friendly in 8 different schools on all levels from PS-12th grade levels.

I attended 4 DCPS schools and I have worked at 8 different schools (2 were summer school sites)-PS-12 grade levels. I have also worked at 825 as an admin asst. during the summer of my second year of being a teacher.

My husband worked at 3 schools elem and jhs levels. He attended 3.

My son is in daycare and will be in DCPS next year, and my daughters (who have always attended different schools) have been in a total of 4different DCPS schools.

Not to mention the friends and family I have working in DCPS as well.

At this point in time folks, I have been in almost over 50 different school buildings witnessing all types of different groups of teachers and administrators. It was on both ends on why the children are failing....and EVERYTIME I witnessed it it was because of a Principal who lacked their Administrator skills or a teacher that lacked Educator skills... not to mention People or "Little People" skills.

I DO NOT AGREE that all responsibility should be left on the Principals... BUT something has to be done!!!

SOMETHING!!!

Me, my mom, my dad, my husband ALL want better than we had, which was not as bad as now I don't think... in our years attending and working for DCPS before the late 90's to the present...

We want this for my daughters and son... if I could afford private... I would! That's where my parents sent me the first half of grade school... on a teacher and police salary...but not anymore... not with 3 kids either...

If you can relate...think about it, if not... don't bother...please and thank you!

As I read these other blogs and they are flooding with teacher vs. teachers vs. Ms. Rhee vs. teachers vs. students vs. parents vs. the media... WE just look so pathetic, uncaring, and unorganized!!!

Can we get some answers... results... instead of shooting down the boss... support her with your ideas...

Blaming is easy... resolving is what makes hard work!!!

Is my career coming to an end???

You know honestly.. I never wanted to become a teacher...

No one ever thought I'd be a good mommy...

I think I got lost in he prejudice atmosphere of the private schools my mother and father sent me to 1st-8th then in public school for a taste of 6 months, a shooting in 91 and the death of a fellow classmate from Langley JHS, sent me back to Private school in 9th grade and then back to finish in public the following 3 years after...

By then...the rebel/angry/scarred/motivated me, developed a positive image at Ellington SHS but lost it in the midst of trying to fit in with two worlds... peers and passion...

But being taught that school is EVERYTHING by my mother, a veteran DCPS teacher of 35+ years and my grandmother an FCPS vet of 30+ years...and my Vietnam vet and police officer father.. I came from a pretty heavy deal background...

My passion for myself..and my experiences...and my background... excited me more into trying to get my peers to... see what I see... and that created a catastrophe on one end...and a beautiful beginning on another...

Life kicks ass...

but it kicked me into k.eeping i.t s.imple s.tupid and kissing passion goodbye and reality set in...

I got pregnant... wanted a better life for my daughter before I even met her... and from what could I base my future on...my past...mom was a teacher... the best thing for me to do and know is to become one too...I go broke on trying to provide her and the others with the best of the best of everything and every opportunity... wouldn't you?

So, here I am... 3 kids later...8 years teaching... lifetime of struggle (maybe not)... and even though I love kids and have changed may lives... I also have my own to worry about... and without them.. there would have never been a career in teaching, it wasn't my passion...however, I work it well...

In a nutshell... I am a mom first, I need to take care of mine and provide more than what I was given...in this day and time...impossible? No, but in teaching... as of Oct 1st...that answer took a turn for nowhere...

Money isn't everything, but it keeps my own children taken care of, and me alive to live averagely...along with my spirit, never ending passion for WRITING (who knew!), and my kids future endeavors...then yours!

Hope I'm not being too selfish... but oh I am! Wouldn't you be...?

Pray, Persuade, Prove!

Trippple P Time!(my kids will tell you about Triple B time.... but my newest self proclaimed statement is PPP!)!!

It is time to Pray folks... Obama and Rhee and many of us are all thinking the same... we are all going out on a limb...but that is the status of life now... we cannot stay the same... we were slaves for over 400 years and 8 years of Bush has damn-managed and damaged us even worse than before... from our pockets, to our air we are breathing, to our homes, and natural disasters without relief, to our kids and their future deriving from our own upbringings, from parents, and grandparents who are bitter and jealous.... the pattern is worsening... don't you see it???

Its time to Persuade folks... you must rub each others backs... remain calm...cool...collected, that is who you are... to blessed to be stressed...and if you present that to one another...from me to you...everything will go over much more smooth....

It is time to Prove what our NEW leaders are proposing to us, with great whole-heartedness... without disbelief.... eyes on the prize...collected...non-agressive, but firm...and well put! This is the key folks... never let them see you sweat...

I am so disgusted with Jerome Brocks...he is arrogant over the radio and I am ready to hunt him down and string him up like a dead horse walking!!!! I read the article but took tonight to listen to this show... he is terrible and wrong and loud-mouthed! The young lady makes very good points...and that is why I beleive Rhee is hanging on to this proposal and not giving up yet... because that IS an important issue-DCPS will not rise until we force teachers to work harder and that is the last piece. There needs to be no training for classroom management because you should prepare for your jobs...actors go to great lengths to study and learn thier roles...study your schools children, and demographics! Rhee has already collaborated schools... the only Plan B I could think of is that she does try more through Professional development and mandate it... or Plan C... close the schools hat aren't performing well and sell them to Charter schools... what do you expect??? Then the vets will be working for $20,000 less!

Sorry this is a long interview and I need to comment some more...

Brock!!! Communities will change if students are coming in and out of BETTER schools. Schools effect50% or more of what is wrong with the community!! Maybe that will help your daughter's friends from getting shot!!! Sorry to be so cold, but honestly!!!

George Parker will hopefully make the decision... bottom line... we are here to serve children not ourselves. A thank you for our efforts will be the great pay raise and bonuses!!!

I am well-rounded, my mother and husband worked in DCPS and they both believe in this proposal. My mother did 35+ years and she is giving me numbers of other vets to talk to them and get them on board...

Other than verifying money which we all are waiting to hear (but probably won't get confirmation unless we get an agreement)... the opposing team has no VALID points!!!! Just a lot of MUMBO JUMBO! Nothing factual, nothing "on the topic at hand"... Remember the topic? THE BETTERMENT OF SCHOOLS WHICH WILL LEAD TO THE BETTERMENT OF CHILDREN WHICH WILL LEAD TO THE BETTERMENT OF COMMUNITIES!!??? Maybe if we try something that is DIFFERENT FROM WHAT HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR THE LENGTH OF TIME THAT MOST VETS HAVE SERVED...TO THE PRESENT...maybe that will help the communities outside the school walls!? Why not try something new?

Michelle is doing this for SE!!!!! She is trying to get those "riding through" teachers over there to get off your ass, stop blaming the demographics and work!!!!!!

We are no one without the Lord!

I don't mean to mix religion and education up, but I pray that this contract goes through to push those who don't do their jobs ACCORDING TO THE JOB DESCRIPTIONS... which doesn't equal to being on your cell phones or texting all day(I do some, but for $30,000 more a year ... I WON'T EVEN BRING MY PHONE INTO THE BUILDING!), hitting children, and talking to them in a mean tone and vulgar, degrading language, NOT PLANNING! who does that anymore... you don't plan for what your students need to accomplish...you don't care about their success! Plain and simple!

If we recondition ourselves to work harder, not only can we be part of History, but we will change a lot of lives and the world around us... show them respect and respect will come... it will go out into the communities and recondition our city!! They want to test and prove this on us please!!!! Any veterans who come across this please speak your side in a meaningful but respectful way.

I have heard veterans... in great positions of rank... cursing and carrying on!!! Why all the hostility and vindictiveness? I want to talk to you, please! Please send out the facts and proof of your argument as I will mine!

Today was a good day!

Well yesterday rather...its after midnight once again... I am usually up late, I do care for my own children ad put them to bed before I advocate for other children majority of the rest of the day and into the we hours of the night. I am ecstatic to say we may come to a tentative agreement in one week, we had a wonderful meeting (the strike never needed to take place... they were ready for us...and our president is doing the right thing for us and everyone!!! So, tomorrow...no today, its after midnight and my husband and I just kissed and toasted to our 4th wedding anniversary! yeah... thru the trials and troubles...but more news on that later...

Today is also the day I become part of a movement... at "my first strike" I told my mother. She told me she has been in many as well in her 35+ years in the DCPS. Now retired and moved on to another school District. It took me awhile to convince her about the contract, she was doubtful at first too.
Anyway, we are striking to make History and I have always wanted to make history... to be the Nation's educational Model! DCPS and get the highest pay in America. Have a better city from the inside out!!! I really believe in this...
